Club Jerseys and Logo

We have selected a brand new Jersey to introduce in 2024!  Stay tuned for the rollout of the ordering process on the club website. The design was selected for its high visibility and simplicity.  You can also see the new club logo.  We expect the cost of the jersey to be around $50 or lower depending on the number of initial orders. Keep an eye out for the order page on the club website to go live as soon as we confirm pricing.

Jersey

You will note we have a fresh, new motto:  “Friends, Community, Adventure”.  We wanted to reflect our ongoing effort to expand the club reach with more social events, community outreach and engagement, and even some adventures such as bikepacking! We plan on making the new logo available soon in a format of a removable sticker, suited for example for your car window.

Significant Contributions

The board has established the concept of the “significant contribution to the club” award for individuals that, in the opinion of the board, have made a major, significant contribution to the board.

Our first recipient of this award is Rey Chavez who has contributed both the new logo design as well as producing video materials that we will be using in the future for promoting the club.

Kickoff 2024

The Club 2024 kickoff ride and social event was a success.  You can find photos on the club website photo album..

IT and Web

The board has created a board position called “Information Technology”.  The purpose is to manage the website, Strava club, RideWithGPS club, Discord, and any other web services.  Officially this position is “open” but is currently filled by the club president until 2025.

Much of the club internet infrastructure can be found in the main menu of the club website. menu
Our principle web services are below.

Strava

Rides and events moved to Strava last year. There is a direct link to “NBC Events@Strava” on the club website as well as instructions on how to “Create a Strava Event”.  In addition, you can subscribe to the club calendar using your favorite calendar tool (Google, Outlook, Apple) using the subscription address:

https://strautomator.com/api/calendar/109863990/806208a5637e327bfdfc0757/all.ics?countries=1

This allows you to (optionally) have the club ride calendar at your fingertips.  You can also find both the club ride list as well as the publicly available “Ride Illinois” ride calendar on the club website.

RideWithGPS

You can find a club route library on RideWithGPS.

https://ridewithgps.com/groups/Naperville-Bicycle-Club

Strava does not support club route libraries so there is no official set of club routes there.  Hopefully someday Strava will improve their club support.

Discord

Discord is an audio and (optionally) visual communication application that we are using for board meetings and Zwift rides.  It is completely free and has no meeting size of length restrictions like Zoom or Google Meet.

Other Stuff

There are a number of other web services that are not as apparent to members or are not actively used.  At some point we would hope to have a club social hour presentation on all the nitty-gritty for those that are interested in such technical topics.  Some of our other services are:  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and an automation tool Zapier.

The final year

We are also announcing that 2024 will be the final year for Daryl Monge as president and Jeff Wagoner as Treasurer.  We are making this announcement so that we have significant lead time to find new volunteers to run for election to these positions in January, 2025.  Optimally we would love to have candidates prior to the end of 2024 to get familiar with club operation.  In particular a VP for 2024 would be of great value. At this point we have so automated club operation that the effort involved in managing the club is dramatically smaller than community organizations like ours would experience in the past.
