Please register for this 12 mile flat-water canoe trip down the lower section of the Fox River. The lower Fox River is one of the most scenic canoeing areas in the Midwest. It is known for sandstone cliffs, abundant wildlife, and scenic seasonal views. This back to nature area is a great way for the novice paddler to enjoy a river trip. Please email George if you want a canoe or Kayak, I will reserve with Ayers to keep it simple, you pay them directly when you get there. (They only have a few single Kayaks no doubles) Canoes better for cooler weather as it is easier to stay dry. It's about an 80 minute drive to Wedron IL. Bring a mask for the shuttle. Please note, Canoe/Kayak Rental Place takes only cash. Canoes $55.00 Single Kayaks $45.00. You also need $2.00 cash for the lunch stop on private land with picnic tables. Please bring a real lunch. It is a very nice lunch spot. Consider bringing snacks to share as well. GPS does not find this place! Directions are as follows: I-55 South to exit 253 (RT 52 west) go 29 miles to Serena, after tracks turn left and go 3 miles to T, turn left, go 1 block, turn left. This is from the Outfitters Website: One of the most pleasant aspects of the Fox River Canoe Trail is the close contact you will have with wildlife and vegetation in their natural habitat. It is not uncommon to cross paths with beaver, muskrat, deer, and fox, in or near the river. After awhile down the river, you may spot a bullfrog croaking. a fish jumping clean out of the water, or a hawk flying high overhead. Cliff swallows can be seen flying in and out of their myriad of perching holes in the massive st. Peters sandstone cliffs, which are numerous between the Rt. 52 bridge and Ayers Landing. In addition, there are at least five species of evergreens, and many varieties of ferns, mosses, and wild flowers. This can make your canoe outing a botanical and zoological experience.
